• Counter-Strike 2 update from May 22, 2026: Cologne Major shop, souvenirs and Pick'Em

The Counter-Strike 2 update from May 22, 2026 is all about the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, and it changes how tournament cosmetics are bought in a pretty noticeable way. Valve has opened the event shop, added a direct-purchase sticker system, introduced a custom souvenir feature, and tied Viewer Pass progression to token rewards. For players who usually chase team logos, autograph stickers, or souvenir skins after big matches, this Counter-Strike 2 update is less about gameplay and more about how the Major economy works.

Counter-Strike 2 update opens the new Cologne 2026 Major shop

The headline change in this Counter-Strike 2 update is the reworked Major Shop. Instead of the old capsule model, players can now buy tokens and redeem them directly for the sticker they want. No roulette, no opening ten capsules just to miss the one FURIA Holo or the donk Foil autograph you were actually after.

Valve says sticker prices are now set by demand. In practice, that means popular team logos and player autographs will cost more tokens when a lot of people want them, while less popular stickers can get cheaper. It is a market-style system, but still inside the Major shop rather than on the Steam Community Market.

There is also a safety net. If a sticker you bought drops in price by more than 25 tokens within 24 hours, Valve refunds the full token difference. That matters because demand around Majors can swing fast. One playoff run, one huge 1v3 with an AK, one viral AWP clip, and a player's autograph can spike overnight.

Valve also explained why capsules are gone this time. The company says many players wanted direct sticker purchases, and some regions have restrictions that make capsule buying harder or impossible. From a player perspective, the change is simple: less gambling-style friction, more control over what lands in your inventory.

Souvenir-O-Matic lets players build their own souvenir skins

The most interesting feature in this Counter-Strike 2 update might be the new Souvenir-O-Matic. Instead of waiting for a souvenir package and hoping for something decent, players can now take a weapon they already own and convert it into a souvenir tied to a completed match and a selected player.

The system works on any normal or Souvenir quality weapon in your inventory. You choose a completed match, pick one of the players from that match, and the weapon comes back in Souvenir quality with gold team, autograph, and map stickers applied.

That is a pretty big shift for Major souvenirs. Before, souvenir collecting was mostly about package drops, rarity, and luck. Now there is a crafted element. If you want a skin attached to a specific playoff game, or a favorite rifler's standout map, you can build around that moment directly.

From a collector's angle, that opens up more personal combinations. From a fan's angle, it is even better. A lot of people do not care about owning "a souvenir" in the abstract. They care about this Mirage, that Nuke, that player. Valve is clearly leaning into that.

This is one of those changes that feels small on paper but could completely reshape how Major souvenirs are valued and remembered.

Viewer Pass, Pick'Em and token rewards are now more tightly connected

The Cologne 2026 Viewer Pass returns with the usual Challenge Coin ladder, from Bronze up to Diamond through Pick'Em predictions. But this time Valve is making the reward loop more direct: each coin upgrade gives 300 tokens that can be spent on stickers or souvenirs.

That creates a cleaner incentive than in some previous Majors. If you follow the event closely, make decent calls, and upgrade your coin, you are not just earning a badge. You are earning currency you can immediately spend in the new shop system.

For regular viewers, that means Pick'Em has more practical value. For casual fans, it lowers the barrier a bit. Even if you are not grinding Premier every night or sweating every force buy in group stage, the pass still feeds into cosmetics you can choose yourself.

Valve also confirmed that 50% of tournament item sales are shared with the tournament organizer, teams, and players. The difference this time is how royalties are calculated. Until the Major ends, token-sale royalty rates depend on VRS seeding. After the event, they depend on final standings.

That will not change how anyone throws a flash on Inferno or calls an eco on Ancient, but it does change the business side of the Major. Better performance should now have a clearer effect on revenue distribution, especially once the tournament is over.

Cologne gets the full Major treatment again

Valve's message around the event is straightforward: the Major is coming back to the "Cathedral of Counter-Strike," and the in-game content is built to match that scale. This Counter-Strike 2 update does not touch weapon balance, smokes, maps, or MR12 flow. It focuses entirely on the tournament layer, but it is still one of the more meaningful cosmetic-system updates CS2 has had around a Major.

The direct sticker shop is the biggest practical change. Souvenir-O-Matic is the freshest idea. Pick'Em rewards are cleaner than before. Put together, it feels like Valve is trying to remove randomness where players hated it and keep excitement where it still works.

For anyone planning to watch Cologne, buy a Viewer Pass, or stack inventory pieces around a favorite team or player, this Counter-Strike 2 update is not just event dressing. It changes how fans interact with the Major from day one.

Full changelog (Valve patch notes)

The IEM Cologne 2026 Major is fast approaching. Teams are making final adjustments, fine-tuning their strats, and crossing their fingers that they won't face Vitality until the Grand Final. You can purchase tokens and redeem them for any sticker you want. The prices of stickers will depend on relative demand (when lots of players buy a particular sticker, its price goes up and other sticker prices go down), but if you're worried that a sticker might drop in price right after you buy it, we've got you covered. If a sticker price drops by more than 25 tokens within 24 hours of your purchase you'll get a refund of tokens for the total difference.

Details about the Major Shop renovation and how this all works can be found in the FAQ below.

Supporting the Teams

As with previous Majors, 50% of the tournament item sales are shared with the Tournament Organizer, Teams, and Players. But this time the royalty rates depend on performance. Between now and the end of the Major royalty rates for token sales are based on the teams' VRS seeding, and after the Major the royalty rates will be based on the Major final standings. The breakdown is in the FAQ, below.

So clear your schedule and tune in, as the Major returns to the Cathedral of Counter-Strike!

FAQ

Q. Why aren't you selling capsules?

In the past we shipped team and player autograph stickers in capsules. While this approach was popular, we've heard feedback that players might prefer to purchase stickers directly. Additionally, players in certain regions cannot purchase sticker capsules. So we're exploring alternatives that allow all players to participate.

Q. How do I get tournament items?

Add any sticker or stickers you like to your cart, and check out. To complete your transaction, first you'll purchase and activate tokens, and then redeem those tokens for your sticker.

Sticker purchases are final and cannot be refunded. If you cancel your transaction before activating your tokens, those tokens can be refunded. If you cancel your transaction after activating your tokens, the tokens will remain in your balance (and cannot be refunded) but you can redeem them for something else.

Q. How are sticker prices set?

The prices of all stickers depend on relative demand. This means that if one sticker is purchased disproportionately more than another, its price will go up and the other sticker's price will go down. After a large number of stickers are sold, all sticker prices will update (you'll get a warning if you're shopping when this is about to happen). The prices in tokens you see are the same prices for everyone worldwide.
